In 2022, our innovative approach enabled us to reduce the amount of sugar in bakery, patisserie, and chocolate products by a staggering 1,456 tons, fat by 12,503 tons, and salt by 126 tons. Additionally we processed 15.9k tons fruit in our products, which is the equivalent of harvesting 320,000 fruit trees. Lastly, we used 36k tons in our products, which is the equivalent of harvesting 6,721 hectare of crops. These accomplishments demonstrate our commitment to addressing consumers' demands for healthier diets and lifestyles. To further address these needs, we have set ambitious goals:

  • Increasing the incorporation of fiber-rich grains, seeds, and fruits in our products.
  • Decreasing the amounts of sugar, salt, and fat in our offerings.
  • Expanding our range of clean(er) label, organic, gluten-free, and plant-based alternatives.
  • By 2030, our aim is for health and well-being products to represent 50% of our sales, showcasing our unwavering focus on promoting healthier choices.

We systematically optimize the nutritional values of both new and existing products, increasing the availability of ingredients recognized for their positive impact on our health.

To address specific health concerns and cater to consumer preferences, we have developed guidelines across various areas:

  • Grains & Seeds: We increase the quantity of grains and seeds in our products, emphasizing the use of wholegrain versions to boost fiber intake.
  • Gut Health: Understanding the link between gut health and overall well-being, our Happy Gut range contains compounds that promote gut health, supporting consumers' physical health, immunity, and mental well-being.
  • Fruits: We strive to increase the fruit content in fillings and final applications, allowing consumers to enjoy more fruit in their diet.
  • Salt: Our solutions aim to reduce salt quantity in baked goods, enabling consumers to adhere to the recommended daily intake as suggested by the World Health Organization.
  • Fat: We focus on reducing or replacing fats of low nutritional quality, opting for healthier fat sources rich in unsaturated fatty acids while eliminating trans fatty acids.
  • Sugar: Puratos offers a complete range of sugar-reduced patisserie and chocolate products. We continually rework existing recipes to reduce sugar content without compromising taste, texture, and quality.

In addition to the Better Health pillar, we also prioritize other aspects such as Clean(er) Labels, Gluten-free, Organic, and Plant-based alternatives. Through our Taste Tomorrow program, we gain in-depth insights into global and local consumer behaviors, attitudes, and choices, allowing us to offer the right product ranges to meet consumers' desires for gluten-free options, transparency, and plant-based alternatives.
